URBAN WALKS
23 WALKS THROUGH SEATTLE'S PARKS AND NEIGHBORHOODS

by Joan Burton and Duse McLean

Introduction

Whether you are new to Seattle or a native, Urban Walks will introduce you to parts of the city you have never seen before. Our walks take you off your normal city routes – out of gridlocked traffic and crowded arterials – allowing you to see the living city.

Visitors and residents can never see enough of Seattle ’s natural beauty –
and it is all the more apparent when you are on foot. Short walks are the key. Few of these walks take more than three hours; most are less than that.

Unlike surrounding suburbs, many Seattle neighborhoods that started as separate towns in early days have evolved into unique and distinct communities. Why not take a look at them on foot? Our city's history is short ? our oldest buildings go back only a century. By walking you can see architectural details and landscaping in ways not possible from a car.

It is easy to imagine the lives of Seattle ’s first settlers in their new land if you visit our old growth parks and walk our city shorelines. How fortunate we are that so much has been preserved and is accessible.

So – put on your walking shoes and start by simply putting one foot in front of the other. Happy walking!
